About TextVerdict
TextVerdict is a free AI text detector that runs entirely in your browser. Paste text, get an AI-score and sentence-level highlights — with no account, no word limit, and no text leaving your device.
Which model powers it?
We use an open-source RoBERTa-based classifier fine-tuned on human vs. ChatGPT text (the HC3-style chatgpt-detector family, served via ONNX). It is trained to distinguish human writing from machine-generated text. Because it is open, we can run it locally in your browser — which is exactly why your text stays private.
What it can and cannot tell you
- It can give you a fast, independent second opinion on whether a passage reads as AI-generated, and show which sentences trigger that impression.
- It cannot prove who wrote a text. Open-source and commercial detectors alike produce false positives — particularly on non-native English writing — and false negatives on heavily edited or paraphrased AI text.
- It is not Turnitin. Turnitin's detector is proprietary and trained on institutional submissions; no third-party tool can reproduce its exact scores.
Our position
Detector scores should inform judgment, never replace it. If you are a teacher, reviewer, or editor, treat every score — ours included — as one signal alongside your own reading of the work. We deliberately show a disclaimer with every result instead of marketing an accuracy percentage we cannot guarantee.
